Dangerous goods

ADR shipments from the Antwerp chemical cluster

Packaged dangerous goods move on groupage when they are compatible with the rest of the load.

Belgium generates more ADR enquiries than any other lane we run, because of the chemical cluster around the port of Antwerp. Packaged dangerous goods in cartons, drums or IBCs can travel on groupage, provided packaging, labelling and documentation comply with ADR and the goods are compatible with the other cargo in the trailer.

Compatibility is the constraint people underestimate. On a groupage truck your cargo shares space with other consignments, and ADR rules prohibit certain combinations. A shipment accepted last month can be refused this month because what else is on the truck has changed. Where quantities are large or compatibility cannot be guaranteed, a dedicated full truck removes the problem.

Send the safety data sheet with your enquiry rather than a commercial description — classification is decided on the SDS. See ADR dangerous goods transport for the classes we handle.

⚗️ Chemicals and raw materials

Packaged goods in drums and IBCs from the Antwerp cluster, moved under full ADR documentation.

💊 Pharmaceuticals

High-value cargo where batch traceability and unbroken packaging matter more than transit cost.

🔧 Automotive components

Parts feeding production lines, where a delay costs far more than the freight itself.

🚢 Port of Antwerp

Collection after customs clearance and devanning, from the terminal or the transhipment warehouse.

How pricing works

How groupage rates are calculated

Charged per pallet or per loading metre, with a separate regime for ADR cargo.

Groupage is charged on the space occupied, not on distance travelled. A standard euro pallet of 120 × 80 cm takes 0.4 loading metres of a 13.6 m trailer with 33 pallet positions. Bulky but light cargo is charged on volumetric weight, following the space taken rather than the scale reading.

ADR cargo carries a separate rate, because of segregation requirements and the additional documentation involved. Rates otherwise depend on the lane, volume, season and stackability, so we do not publish fixed prices. Send dimensions, gross weight and, where relevant, the safety data sheet, and you will have a quote within two hours.

Full truck and express

Full truck loads and 3.5t express

When volume, deadline or ADR class rules groupage out.

FTL 40t is a 13.6 m curtainsider or mega trailer carrying 33 euro pallets or up to 24 tonnes, running direct with a transit of 3-4 working days. For larger ADR consignments it is often the only option, since it removes the compatibility question entirely.

Express 3.5t is a dedicated van leaving within 24 hours of confirmation, transit 2-3 days, payload around 1,200 kg or 8-10 euro pallets. On this lane it is most often used for laboratory reagents with short shelf life, high-value pharmaceuticals and automotive parts holding up an assembly line.

Temperature-controlled transport is available on this lane from −24 °C to +14 °C, on groupage and on full truck loads. It is not available on the 3.5t express service. The set point is agreed per booking and held for the whole journey. State the temperature range with your enquiry, as it determines the vehicle assigned.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions – Belgium to Romania

How long does transport from Belgium to Romania take?
Groupage transit is 5-7 working days from collection. A full 40t truck takes 3-4 working days, and 3.5t express 2-3 days.
Do you carry dangerous goods from Belgium?
Yes. Packaged dangerous goods in cartons, drums or IBCs travel on groupage or on full loads, provided packaging, labelling and documentation comply with ADR and the cargo is compatible with the rest of the load.
Can you collect from the port of Antwerp?
Yes. We collect after customs clearance and container devanning, from the terminal or the transhipment warehouse, and deliver anywhere in Romania.
Which Belgian cities do you collect from?
Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent, Liège, Charleroi and Zeebrugge, covering both Flanders and Wallonia.
What is the minimum shipment size?
One pallet. Groupage is charged per pallet or per loading metre occupied.
Why do some ADR shipments require a full truck?
Because ADR rules prohibit certain classes from travelling together in the same vehicle. When quantities are large or compatibility with the rest of the load cannot be guaranteed, a dedicated truck is the only compliant option.
What documents are required?
A commercial invoice, a packing list and the international CMR consignment note, which we issue. Dangerous goods also require the ADR transport document and the safety data sheet.
