Indicative groupage rates Europe → Romania, by number of euro pallets

Euro pallets 120 × 80 cm, prices in EUR excluding VAT, from collection at the supplier to delivery at the consignee in Romania.

A euro pallet on economy groupage from the Netherlands, Belgium or Germany to Romania costs an indicative €250–310 excluding VAT, and a full 13.6 m truck on the same lane costs €3,990–4,900. Premium Express SRL, with its consolidation hub in Bacău, publishes these list rates as a budgeting reference: in each cell, the lower figure is for delivery in western Romania (Timișoara, Arad, Oradea) and the higher figure for delivery in Bucharest or the Moldova region (Bacău, Iași). Cities in between fall within the range, depending on distance.

Full truck 13.6 m column: dedicated departure, transit of 2-4 days depending on the route, rate per trip.

* United Kingdom: the rates include the Channel crossing but not the cost of export and import customs declarations. UK customs formalities are described on the Romania – UK transport page.

Turkey: the rate on the Turkey – Romania lane changes from one week to the next, so we do not publish it as a list rate and quote it on request. Turkey – Romania groupage has weekly departures and a door-to-door transit of 7-10 working days.

Transit time

The transit time included in these rates

The rates above are for economy groupage: the goods leave on the next consolidated truck on the route and arrive within 7-10 working days of collection, depending on distance — faster from the Benelux and Poland, closer to 10 days from south-west France or the UK. It is the option with the best price per pallet, suited to planned replenishment, stock orders and deliveries without a fixed deadline.

If you need the goods sooner, there are two options, each priced separately:

Tell us the date by which you need the goods and we will propose the right option, with a firm quote within 2 hours. You never pay for speed you do not need.

Loading metres

How the price is calculated: loading metres of floor, not kilometres

The groupage rate depends on how much truck floor the goods occupy, on the collection country and on the delivery area in Romania.

The price of a groupage shipment is calculated on the loading metres of floor the goods occupy in the 13.6 m trailer, not on the number of kilometres driven. A standard 120 × 80 cm euro pallet is charged at 0.5 loading metres, and ten euro pallets are charged at 4.8 loading metres.

Floor space is the limited resource of a groupage truck: a pallet that cannot be stacked blocks all the volume above it, and the leg between Western Europe and Romania costs the same however heavy the goods are. That is why the table below is the basis of every groupage quote Premium Express makes.

Euro pallets 120 × 801234567-8910
Loading metres charged0.51.01.21.62.02.43.24.04.8

Industrial pallets of 120 × 100 cm and 120 × 120 cm do not fit the table by number of euro pallets: they are charged directly in loading metres, on their actual floor footprint. The same applies to non-palletised parcels, crates, IBCs and goods of unusual length. If the goods are bulky but light, volumetric weight applies, meaning you pay for the space occupied, not for the scale reading.

The second factor is the delivery area in Romania. For Timișoara, Arad and Oradea the truck enters the country and unloads straight away, so the rate is at the bottom of the range. For Bucharest and the Moldova region, including Bacău and Iași, the goods travel a few hundred kilometres further inside the country and the rate moves towards the top of the range. Deliveries in Cluj, Sibiu, Brașov or Pitești fall between the two figures.

Price per pallet

The average price per pallet drops from ~€300 to ~€200 when you ship more pallets

Calculated from the Netherlands / Belgium / Germany rate divided by the number of euro pallets.

On the Netherlands / Belgium / Germany → Romania lane, a single euro pallet costs €250–310, but at 5 euro pallets the average price falls to €168–206 per pallet. The fixed costs of a shipment — collection from the supplier, documents, warehouse handling, final delivery — are spread over more pallets, so each additional pallet is cheaper than the first.

Average price per pallet, €250–310225–275177–217168–206170–209149–183162–200121–148

The decrease is not perfectly linear, because the price follows loading metres, not the number of pallets. At 8 euro pallets the average falls to €149–183, because 7 and 8 pallets are charged at the same 3.2 loading metres. At 10 pallets the average rises slightly, to €162–200, because 4.8 loading metres are charged. On a full 13.6 m truck, with 33 euro pallets, the average reaches €121–148 per pallet. From around 15 pallets it is worth asking for a full truck quote as well, for comparison.

For France and the United Kingdom the curve is the same, only shifted upwards by roughly 5-25 %, because the distance is greater. For Poland, the rate also starts at €250 for one pallet, but from 2 pallets upwards it is roughly one third lower than from the Netherlands.

What is included

What the groupage rate includes and what is paid separately

The rate in the table is door-to-door, from the supplier's loading bay to the consignee's loading bay, for standard palletised goods.

The Premium Express groupage rate covers the whole journey of the goods, from the supplier in Europe to the consignee in Romania, with no hidden costs along the way. Anything not on the list is quoted separately and appears explicitly in the firm quote.

✓ Included in the rate

  • Collection from the supplier, with a pick-up order sent by us
  • Consolidation in our partner's warehouse in Europe or directly on the truck
  • International transport on the weekly groupage line
  • Delivery to the consignee's address in Romania, including through the hub in Bacău
  • GPS tracking of the truck along the whole route
  • Carrier's liability under the CMR Convention, a maximum of 8.33 SDR per gross kilogram

✕ Not included

  • ADR dangerous goods (surcharge, by class and packaging)
  • Refrigerated transport, temperature-controlled between −24 °C and +14 °C
  • Booked delivery or loading slots
  • Waiting time beyond the standard loading or unloading time
  • All-risk insurance on the invoice value (arranged on request, through a broker)
  • Customs formalities for the United Kingdom and Turkey
  • VAT

CMR liability covers the goods up to 8.33 SDR per kilogram, which for electronics, spare parts or expensive equipment is usually far below the invoice value. For such goods we recommend all-risk insurance, which we quote together with the transport.

Export

Export Romania → Europe: similar rates, quote within 2 hours

In the export direction, groupage leaves weekly from the hub in Bacău for France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom.

Groupage rates in the Romania → Europe direction are similar to those in the import table, but we do not publish them separately: we quote them for each shipment. Send the number of pallets, the dimensions, the weight and the delivery address and you receive the quote within 2 hours.

Premium Express SRL collects export goods within 24-48 hours from the counties of Bacău, Neamț, Iași, Vaslui, Vrancea, Suceava and Botoșani, consolidates them in Bacău and loads them on the groupage line to the destination. Details of the export flow are on the groupage Romania – Europe page, and for shippers in the Moldova region on the Moldova hub page (in Romanian).

7 or 8 pallets

Why 7 pallets cost the same as 8

Because they occupy the same floor space: 3.2 loading metres.

Seven euro pallets and eight euro pallets are charged the same, at 3.2 loading metres, because the seventh pallet also takes up the position where the eighth would have fitted. The space left free next to it cannot be sold to another customer, so it is included in the price of the one who blocked it.

The practical conclusion: if you have 7 pallets to send, the eighth travels at practically no extra cost. It is worth bringing forward goods from the next order that can leave now, or splitting the load differently, for example from 7 tall pallets into 8 lower, more stable ones. The same reasoning applies to pallets that cannot be stacked: a non-stackable pallet blocks all the volume above it, so tell us from the start whether the goods can be stacked.

Firm quote

How to get a firm quote within 2 hours

The table is a budgeting reference. The firm quote starts from the actual details of the shipment and can be lower than the list rate.

For a firm groupage quote, Premium Express SRL in Bacău needs six pieces of information, and the reply comes within 2 hours on working days. The firm quote takes into account that week's line and the free space on the truck, so it often comes in below the list rate in the table.

Why does transport from Poland cost at least €250?▼
For a single pallet, the fixed costs of a shipment (collection from the supplier, handling, documents and final delivery) are almost the same as on longer routes, so the rate for 1 pallet from Poland is €250. From 2 pallets upwards the shorter distance shows in the price: €300–360 for 2 pallets and €2,600–3,200 for a full truck load, roughly one third below the rate from the Netherlands.
How much do 5 pallets from Belgium to Bacău cost?▼
Five euro pallets on economy groupage from Belgium (Antwerp) to Bacău cost an indicative €1,030 or so excluding VAT, the top of the €840–1,030 range, because Bacău is in the Moldova region. That works out at roughly €206 per pallet.
